Round of golf for four Named after the Pottowomuit Indian Tribe, the Potowomut Golf Club has steadily progressed from humble and historic beginnings to a family-oriented golf and social club of unrivaled reputation. Once an Indian campsite and later the Paul Greene Dairy Farm, the land was leased from R.H.I. Goddard in 1927 and in 1945 a purchase agreement with Mr. Goddard was finalized. The 6380 yard tree-lined layout has progressed from fertile farmland to verdant fairways; the members from enthusiastic golf novices to amateur and professional champions; the clubhouse from a cow barn to a modern dining and function facility with a busy social calendar; and a golf course with sand greens to a Walter Johnson (former 17 year Donald Ross associate) design now conforming to USGA standards of excellence. Through the years, a vibrant junior program has provided Potowomut with champions in state competition and has helped to develop the interest and leadership qualities necessary to hold office both at Potowomut and at the RIGA. Potowomut's professionals i.e., Golf Professional, Clubhouse Manager, Green Superintendent and Controller are well credentialed, experienced and stand ready to see to the needs of the membership. Potowomut's roots are deep, strong and well-maintained for future success.
